Victim Support Sandwell

This website is designed to inform you about the information and support services that we offer to victims of crime within the Sandwell area of the West Midlands.

Victim Support has been working in Sandwell for fifteen years and has developed a range of services, which in the last year over 18,000 people have accessed, from victims of house burglary, muggings, assaults, bogus officials, rape and sexual assault to murder victims.

We offer help in the following areas:

Emotional support and if appropriate, counselling.
Information about the Criminal Justice System and the progress of the Victim's case.
Help with filling out insurance claim forms.
Support when attending court.
Information about other organisations.
A free lockfitting service.
Training on Victim perspective issues for other organisations.
Victim/Offender mediation in conjunction with Sandwell Mediation Service

VEV stands for Visual Evidence for Victims

Victim Support staff and volunteers in Sandwell are trained to take instant photographs of your injuries and/or damage to your property that has been caused by domestic or hate crime. These photographs can then be stored and used as evidence at a later date if you wish. The service is entirely free and confidential.

The evidence can be used for:-

· Supporting a Criminal Injuries Compensation Claim
· Reporting the crime to the police
· Civil proceedings
The evidence will be:-

· Kept securely and confidentially for up to 6 years
· Destroyed if you ask them to be
· Suitable for use in court proceedings
· Taken with your consent

You will be treated with dignity, understanding and sensitivity.

This information belongs to you. Victim Support will not tell anyone else that they have this information. We can also advise you about other services available that can support you.
